Chinese Pride NZ

Saturday 5th July

Kia ora!

I am applying on behalf of Chinese Pride NZ, a Tāmaki-based non-profit that supports Chinese queer communities. We are planning to host a zine-making workshop to empower Chinese queer diasporas to explore and express their gender, sexual, and cultural identities through zine creation. The workshop will be facilitated by experienced zinemakers, Binhua and Sihan, and lead to a collaboratively produced zine reflecting the diverse voices of the participants. We will be sharing the zines created in this workshop at zinefest to celebrate, connect, and uplift Chinese queer creativity.

Bio | Binhua and Sihan:

Binhua is a PhD candidate in Social Work at the University of Auckland, using arts-based methods to support critical reflection among practitioners. He have facilitated zine-making workshops at universities across China and continue to explore zines as a medium for public engagement and collective care in Aotearoa.

Sihan is a doctoral candidate at the University of Auckland researching on the Baihe fanfiction writers' community. They are one of the creators of the Blue Budgie zine showcased in last year's Auckland Zinefest.
