Filemu
Sunday 6th July
Filemu (peaceful, to feel settled in Samoan) was created from the pandemic during 2021 - a form of community care for our peers and fellow artist friends of Pacific descent. We wanted to make a meaalofa - a gift - filled with words of comfort to encourage co-dreaming, proactive healing and intentional community care. And so... our zines were born! Our zines centre collective liberation and table conversations on what makes our communities feel settled through hand made and digital collages, essays and poetry.
Our mission in a world of noise is to disrupt colonial patterns and restriction through gentle methods of resistance; and to facilitate safe and open conversations online, in workshops, in shared space designed with intention and in print by exploring what helps our communities feel settled or ‘Filemu’.
We are staunch allies of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and use our zine to offer our Moana Oceania communities a place to be challenged, to be seen, to be comforted and to grow together.
