On the day
The market is on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th of July, 11:00am–3:00pm at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

Getting there
You can get to the gallery through public transport, driving in, or being dropped off.
Below are our recomendations for the different methods.
-
You can plan your public transport journey through the AT Journey Planner or using Googles Maps.
-
Some might find it easier to drive into the city with their zines and other gear. You can find the best route via Google Maps.
For parking, the closest parking building isWilson Parking on Kitchener Street at $13 for a day on the weekend.
The next closest and cheaper option is Auckland Transport’s Victoria Street East car park at $10 for a weekend day.
There is also on-street parking on Princes Street (on the other side of Albert Park) and cost details can be found here.
If you’re a team of two, there is a loading bay on Kitchener Street in front of the gallery by the Gow Langsford Gallery that can be used to drop off your gear while the driver goes to park.
-
If you are getting dropped off by a friend or ride sharing service, it is easy to pull over to get out. If you have a lot to unpack, there is a loading bay in front of the gallery for the driver to use while you get your gear out.
At the market
Arrive at the gallery from 9:00am – 9.30am to set up on Saturday and Sunday.
-
• Your zines. We recommend minimum 5-10 copies per zine. You can always print more and use them next year or trade them with other zinemakers.
• A float with cash. The gallery gift shop and cafe will not have cash to give out, so remember to bring some cash and have change. You will need smaller $5 & $10 notes and lots of coins depending on the price of your zines.
• Your bank account number on display or on a piece of paper so you are ready to accept bank transfers for people to purchase your zines.
• A water bottle.
• A table cloth or decorative pieces for your stall.
-
When you arrive at the Gallery, sign in with the Auckland Zinefest team at the info table in the ground floor right by the entrance.
Once you have checked in you can head to your table for set up.
-
• Full table: The size of a full table is 180cm long and about 90cm wide. If you have a full table, this whole space is yours.
• Half table: A half table is a table shared between two stall holders 50/50. Your space would be 90cm long by 90cm wide.
• The tables on the lower ground floor are 30 cm larger than the others.• Community Table: If you are on the community table, you can drop off your zines between 9:00am – 9.30am at in Te Ātea/North Atrium on the mezzanine level. Our team of volunteers will sell your zines on your behalf OR if you’ve said you’d like to volunteer at the community table, you should have received an email with info about volunteering with a roster.
-
There’s no food allowed inside the gallery, even at your stall.
This is to keep the art safe and keep the space clean.Drinking water is allowed at your stall if in a secure bottle.
(No boba or takeaway coffees in the market please!)Of course, we all need a food for fuel!
We have a Stallholder Breakroom set up for you to take a break and eat your lunch peacefully. Here, you can store your lunch, eat freely, prepare a hot drink, help yourself to snacks provided or just have a quiet moment.
You can also ask a friend or your table neighbour to mind your stall while you go out for lunch.
-
The Stallholder Breakroom is in the boardroom, in the lower ground level of the Gallery (on the same level as the auditorium). You can drop off your food here in the morning to eat later, have a quiet moment, prepare a hot drink and help yourself to drinks and snacks provided.
If you're bringing food or drinks to the Stallholder Breakroom or to the East Terrace, please make sure they are sealed, in a bag and carried discreetly.
You can also ask a friend or your table neighbour to mind your stall while you go out for lunch.
-
If you need to take a lunch break but don't have a buddy or neighbour to mind your table, we have our Tag Team to assist.
To get one of the Tag Team volunteers help, simply message us on Facebook with your name and table number and we'll get someone to stand in for you.
Message us through our Facebook Page or search us up directly on Messenger.
-
Check your email to find an email from akzinefest@gmail.com with your table number and find your table in the seating map here.
If in your application you requested to be seated next to a friend, we will do our best to seat you next to them.
The zinemaker stalls will be on Te Ateā/North Atrium, the lower ground floor foyer and the studio.
Tips
Decorating your stall
Bring a fun tablecloth or fabric to cover your table.
Use different heights to arrange your zine displays and make the most of your stall space. You can use little boxes or racks to hold up zines. See how other people have set up their stalls here.
Packaging
Bring paper bags to make it easier for people to carry any zines they’ve purchased from you. You can take a pile of A5 paper bags zinefest volunteers will have at the sign up desk.
If you are selling prints, you can roll them up and hold them in a roll with scrap paper and tape to make it easier for people to carry them.
Taking breaks
Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the market.
Bring food and store it in the break room to eat later or help yourself to some of the snacks for zinemakers in the break room.
If you need a break during the event, ask your neighbour or a zinefest volunteer to mind your stall while you are away.
Quiet Hour
This year we are holding a Quiet Hour on both days for our neurodiverse friends and people that prefer a low stimulation environment while browsing these.
To do this successfully, please be mindful about how loud you speak and any other possible noise. The Quiet Hour will be from 10:00am–11:00am.
This is also a chance for stallholders to ease into the day before the opening to the public from 11:00am–3:00pm.

Health & Safety
Sometimes it can feel overwhelming or tiring to be around people all day.
Make sure you have a water bottle to stay hydrated and chat to your neighbour so you can look after each other. If you need a break, you can ask your neighbour/friend or talk to one of the volunteers at the zinefest info table so they can mind your stall while you take a break.
If at any point during the market you feel uncomfortable, ill, or upset - please see a zinefest volunteer and let them know of the problem. We will do our best to help and make you feel safe.
Please be respectful of each and our team and help us make this event a safe space:
• Do not use disrespectful or threatening language
• Respect people’s space
• Sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia and fatphobia will not be tolerated.
• Treat fellow makers, AZF volunteers, gallery staff, and the space with manaakitanga (kindness and compassion) throughout the day.
Join the AZF Discord
Join our Discord to keep in touch with other zinemakers and the Auckland Zinefest team.
You can ask questions here and get answers from the team and zine community.
Covid-19 Guidelines
As a winter event, we will continue to hold the Auckland Zinefest market indoors due to the likelihood of rain and cold weather.
What happens if I have to isolate on the day I have a stall at the market?
If you can no longer attend the market, you can ask a friend to bring your zines and look after your stall on your behalf. If so, please let us know or forward the ‘Zinemaker Information’ email to your friend so they can show it to the Gallery staff on arrival.
Otherwise, please let us know if you or your friend can’t make it to the event so we can upgrade your neighbour to a full table or remove your table to allow more space.
• Seating plan: As well as the Gallery’s north atrium, the Zinefest market will be spread out through the lower ground floor foyer and the studio. This will allow us to have tables with fewer stall holders and visitors in each area.
• Cleaning: The Gallery cleans high contact areas regularly throughout the day.
• Hand sanitiser stations: There are hand sanitiser stations located across the Gallery for you to use.
