Alex Scott & Imogen Temm

Saturday 1 August

Alex: “I’m an artist, cartoonist, magazine sub-editor and author of the graphic novel Episodes. I got into zine making as a way to share work and ideas I hadn’t found an outlet for in any other artform. While posting online has its merits, nothing compares to holding something physical in your hands and turning the pages. My zines include collections of notes and drawings, cartoon compilations and a behind-the-scenes zine about the making of my book.”

Imogen: “I’m an Auckland-based graphic designer and art director. I currently work for a cool creative company across branding and advertising. Previously, I’ve worked predominantly in print media, covering fashion, architecture and interior design. I’ve become interested in zines as a way to sustain an artistic illustration practice and reconnect with why I embarked on a creative career – free from commercial interests and client demands. Much like my scrappy art style, I’m excited about making zines that embrace imperfections and quirks – while using the knowledge I’ve gained in my career to produce zines with a professional finish.”

The vast majority of our zines were printed on our desktop printer and hand-compiled at home in Ōwairaka.
