Comics have been a huge presence in my life for as long as I can remember, and even though I work in animation, the sensibilities and styles of this wonderful medium are cornerstones to my creative output. I am also a comic collector that has spent years hunting and coveting comics from all eras, and I revel in the thrill of reading and smelling these ageing newsprint books.
Among these comics are a genre that I have particular love for; horror and sci-fi anthology stories from 1950’s EC Comics to 1970’s Heavy Metal and DC Comics. They often involved horrible acts of evil meeting karmic justice, or ghoulish creatures terrorising curious youths.
That is what led me towards making a comic book that is born out of the love for those stories. I’ve put together 3 short comics I’ve made over the last few years, and they are printed under the debut title ‘Ethereal Fables’. Each story holds personal meaning to me, and it’s satisfying to be able to look at my work in physical media in an overwhelmingly digital world.
